This summer, we are proudly offering Dance Camps for students in Levels I to III!
MISA KURANAGA: was born in Osaka, Japan. She began dancing in Japan as a young child and went on to become an international star. She is considered to be one of the top ballerinas in the world today. She is currently a principal dancer with the San Francisco Ballet Company and previously was a principal with Boston Ballet. She has performed as a guest artist all around the world including: the lead roles of Giselle in the Marinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg, Russia; Swan Lake in Tokyo, Japan and Serenade with New York City Ballet. She is also the winner of many national and international awards. We were honored to have Misa dance the lead role of the Sugar Plum Fairy for several years in our AAB Nutcracker at U. B. Our students are so fortunate to have her as a guest teacher this summer.
DANIEL ULBRICHT: In November 2001 Daniel joined New York City Ballet as a member of the corps de ballet. In January 2005 Mr. Ulbricht was promoted to the rank of soloist and in May 2007 he became a principal dancer. At NYCB he has danced many featured roles and has also performed at a number of national and international festivals and galas. Daniel is a guest teacher at the School of American Ballet, Ballet Academy East, as well as, teaching at a number of well known national dance schools, private schools, and universities throughout the United States. Ms. Maris had the privilege of teaching Mr. Ulbricht for several summers at the Chautauqua Institutions summer dance program.
GEMMA FREITAS BENDER: Gemma is a former American Academy student and won a scholarship to the renowned Juilliard School in New York City. As a senior she was selected by the Juilliard faculty to be a finalist in the national Princess Grace (Kelly) award which is presented each year to the outstanding college senior in the country. She was deeply honored when she became the recipient of the award. After graduating she joined and toured the world with "Les Ballet Jazz de Montreal." She currently lives in London, England with her husband Will, who is a member of the London Philharmonic, and their one year old daughter Louisa. We are thrilled to Gemma back home and teaching classes for AAB this summer.
KATHY STARK DIA: Danced professionally with Ballet Met in Columbus, OH and was a principal dancer with Southern Ballet Theater (now Orlando Ballet). She is currently on the faculty of Acton School of Ballet and the Conservatory at Northeast School of Ballet in Boston. She has been a summer faculty member at Pittsburgh Youth Ballet, Boston Ballet, and Chautauqua Institution, where she taught for five summers. "Ms. Kathy" taught for the American Academy of Ballet for six years. She is so pleased to return as a guest teacher this summer!
DANIELLE DINIZ: As a student, Danielle won many regional and national dance titles and scholarships. During the summer she studied at the Musical Theater Summer Conservatory and the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. After earning her B.A. from Cornell University, she joined the "Dirty Dancing" national tour. She has performed regionally in multiple shows including "My Fair Lady" and "National Pastime." She served as dance captain for three years for "The Rocky Horror Show" and is honored to frequently tour with "Stars of American Ballet."
SOULTANA: Former AAB student who is currently a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall in NYC!
